Year 5 Term 1 2025-2026

Term 1

Year 5 Curriculum newsletter Term 1

Welcome to Year 5 Term 1. We have an exciting term ahead of us. We look forward to exploring our new class book - ‘Skellig’ By David Almond. We will also be delving into the world of Damola Ayegbayo, who is a modern Nigerian artist. He is famous for his paintings of faces and people. Using this to inspire us to create our own thought provoking portraits.  In Science, we will look at the properties of different materials and how they can be useful to humans.

Science: Properties of Materials

To kick off our new term in science we started with a good scavenger hunt around the classroom. In our groups we had to find as many materials as we could with the same property we were given. We had a tricky time trying to decide if our objects had our property or not! Conductivity was the hardest property to find, however, after the timer was up we did, as a class, find loads more than we originally thought of.

We used our science lesson this week to become chemistry researchers. We looked at dissolving different sugars in warm water and how the size of the particles helped or hindered the sugar from dissolving.

RE: Reflection

We had an insightful and calming first reflection of this term. We spoke about love and how we could show, how we actually show and how we are going to start to change our actions for the better. We reflected on the importance of loving thy neighbour and what we can do to show them love.
