Catholic Social Teaching

God has a plan for Creation:

Catholic Social Teaching is based on the belief that God has a plan for creation—a plan to build His kingdom of peace, love and justice. It holds that God has a special plan for every single one of us, whoever we are.

Our part in this plan isn’t limited to spiritual matters or to times when we do “religious things.” It involves every aspect of our lives, from the things we pray about to how we live as responsible global citizens.

Our role in this story is a vocation for the common good—a call to treat everyone as our brothers and sisters. It is something that we all share.

The Catholic Church has set out the principles of social teaching, which we share with our children through all that we do. This happens both implicitly and explicitly, through the curriculum, special events and activities, and through our ordinary actions in school.

Catholic Social Teaching in action:

The CST Tree

At the heart of our school entrance stands the CST tree, a vibrant and living symbol of Catholic Social Teaching in action. Each branch and leaf represents examples of how our pupils strive to live out the teachings in their daily lives, whether through acts of kindness, helping others, or showing respect and fairness. The tree is a visible reminder of our commitment to Gospel Values, linking classroom learning to real-life practice.

‘The Community Larder’ Foodbank

Representatives of our RE Council delivered food donations to The Community Larder, where they were gratefully received. We send a huge thank you to all parents and carers who generously contributed to this cause over the past couple of weeks.

We are so proud of our pupils, who understand the importance of giving back and making a difference in the lives of others—truly living out the Gospel Values and embodying our school’s commitment to Catholic Social Teaching.

The Symbols

Using the 7 Catholic Social Teaching (CST) symbols, our pupils and staff actively link all areas of learning to examples of these principles in practice. Our Good Book Journey in English is designed with these principles in mind, and our foundation learning also contains many connections.

These symbols help our pupils recognise and refer to CST in action, making the values tangible and relevant in their everyday learning.
