Science
We have been looking at different types of materials. We investigated which material would be best for blackout curtains for the bear’s cave. We found out that black bin bag material worked best but discussed how this would not be practical as it tears easily!

The Great Fire of London
We created our own wooden houses that would have been built in London in 1666. Then we stuck them together to show close the houses were to each other and prove how quickly the fire would have spread.
Why did it burn so quickly?

The Nativity
Our performance to the school
The children practiced their lines and positions for many weeks leading up to their performances. They had to learn their lines, positions and 6 songs before performing without any scripts. Also they performed in front of the whole school as well as two adult performances! All the children sang so beautifully and worked really hard!!

RE
Creating our Advent WreathThe class coloured their own leaf and added words to consider during Advent. They had to pick one word to write onto their leaf before
putting them all together. The children chose words such as “Joy”, “Love”, “Peace” “Advent” and “Christmas”.Why did you chose these words?
Olabisi - “I picked ‘Joy’ because Mary and Joseph felt Joy when they had baby Jesus”Harsini - “I chose ‘Humble’ because Jesus is humble by being kind, blessing other people

ART
We created flowers in the style of Mary Quant. The children designed a flower to use as a guide to help them with their string work.
Once they drew their flower they stuck string along the lines and added a button in the middle.

‘Celebrating our new Bibles’We reviewed the different styles of Bibles. The children discussed what they liked about each version and the differences between them.
What is the difference between these?

DT
African HutsWe have been using clay to make our own African Huts. They were each given a piece of clay, sticks and rolling pin to create their own version of a hut.

Maths
Different types of moneyWe looked at types of coins and notes from different periods of time. There were coins from the “Silver Jubilee 1977”, “Queens Golden Jubilee”
and the “Kings Coronation”. We also had older notes that are no longer in circulation varying from recent years to 20 years ago.
Not only this, we have been working on counting money currently in circulation and learning every coin and note.

We used “SketchPad” to create our own shopping bag and selected items we would use everyday.

“Fred” the Tortoise
Fred came to stay with us for a week in the classroom. The children looked after him by giving him lots of food, cleaning him and taking him for a walk on the field.

RE
Every Tuesday we gather for a “Celebration of the Word”. Our Gospel Value this term is - Honesty & Justice. We have been reflecting on how we should be honestand be forgiving to others. The children are given the opportunity to say their own prayers, reflect on each theme of the week and have time to silently reflect.
