Music
Intent
Implementation
- We use the “Charanga” scheme of work from EYFS to Year 6 to ensure a wide exposure of different music genres, with opportunities for practical sessions where they are able to explore and develop as musicians and singers
- Through listening and appraising music, the children learn about the structure and organisation of the different genres
- The children develop descriptive language skills in the lessons and are able to express how the music makes the feel and the story that the music tells
- The children learn technical vocabulary such as: volume, pitch, beat and rhythm
- They are given the opportunity to deepen and develop their love of music by learning to play instruments such as the ukulele and various types of percussion
Impact
- Our children learn to work both independently and as part of a group, ensuring skills of resilience and teamwork are promoted in this subject and other areas of the curriculum
- Opportunities to perform
- Ensure that our children recognise and understand the significance of music within the wider world
- Use their knowledge of music within other areas of the curriculum
