Intent

Our children will learn that music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity
Lessons engage and inspire the children to have a love of music, develop their talent as musicians and increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement
They will engage in a critical engagement of music, allowing them to compose and listen to a wide variety of musical forms

Implementation

We use the “Charanga” scheme of work from EYFS to Year 6 to ensure a wide exposure of different music genres, with opportunities for practical sessions where they are able to explore and develop as musicians and singers
Through listening and appraising music, the children learn about the structure and organisation of the different genres
The children develop descriptive language skills in the lessons and are able to express how the music makes the feel and the story that the music tells
The children learn technical vocabulary such as: volume, pitch, beat and rhythm
They are given the opportunity to deepen and develop their love of music by learning to play instruments such as the ukulele and various types of percussion

Impact

Our children learn to work both independently and as part of a group, ensuring skills of resilience and teamwork are promoted in this subject and other areas of the curriculum
